An Arts and Crafts ladderback side chair by Heal’s, London, c.1920. The frame presents square uprights with three flat back rails above the original rush seat. Plank stretchers run front and back with side rails below, giving a robust, rectilinear base. The design reads as a restrained workshop interpretation of rural seating, aligning Heal’s house style with British vernacular ideals.
