E. W. Godwin attributed possibly made William Watt. Anglo-Japanese writing desk

SOLD

An Anglo-Japanese writing desk with upper glazed compartmentalised cupboards for letters. A projecting cornice and wavy stain glass to the back with felt ‘letter retaining folds’ below, flanked by incised turnings with square ends characteristic of Godwin. A leather writing area with two drawers below and a pair of further drawers to the right and an open space to the left at the back. Godwin used side drawers on a double side writing table illustrated in William Watt's Art Furniture Catalogue 1877. The turned legs with simple rounded feet and central projecting supports uniting blocks are reminiscent of the chairs he designed for Dromore castle. See Soros, Pg 93 Pl 112.
