A rare pair of high Aesthetic Movement walnut, ebonized, and parcel-gilt side chairs. An unusual pair of artistic chairs with extensive incised gilded line and floral decoration throughout, including the stretchers.

Stamped R. Whytock & Co., Edinburgh beneath one seat (shown in the last images) and Edinburgh alone under the other chair. Both chairs bear the production number 5141. The final image shows all six chairs currently available. The set of four is available here:

Richard Whytock began his furniture-making career in Edinburgh in 1838 under the name R. Whytock & Co., continuing until the firm's merger with John Reid in 1876 to form Whytock & Reid.
