Arts & Crafts Mahogany Tub Chair with Stylised Floral Cut-Outs c.1900
£1,800
This Arts & Crafts mahogany tub chair was produced around 1900, during the later phase of the Arts & Crafts Movement (1880–1910). The curved back and stylised floral cut-outs reflect the movement’s transition toward a simplified decorative language that balanced natural form with functional geometry.
Constructed in solid mahogany, the chair features a semicircular backrest pierced with two floral motifs, joined to a round seat newly upholstered in high-quality blue leather. The seat rests on four tapering legs united by stretchers for stability. The design combines structural elegance with comfort, showing the restrained ornament typical of British domestic craftsmanship at the turn of the century.
