An Oak Arts and Crafts Stickstand
POA
A compact Arts and Crafts oak stick stand dating from around 1900. The rectangular frame is constructed in quarter-sawn oak, with a pierced heart motif to the upper frieze and shaped side supports that project subtly beyond the uprights. Below, the open base would once have held a removable drip tray. The clean geometry, light tone and decorative cut-outs are typical of vernacular English craftsmanship influenced by the Guild of Handicraft and regional workshops around the turn of the century.
